The New Stuff

Samsung Update

Android 4.1.2 was officially released a few days ago for Nexus 7 and also the Google Nexus family smartphones. As a result developers started coming up with custom firmwares for the Galaxy S3 and now at a last, in the lack of an official update, for the Galaxy S2.

Before going on any further, you should know that this update is only working for Galaxy S2 GT i9100 models (Check Settings, About Phone, Model Number). So if you are the owner of a different device, you should not proceed any further unless you just want to learn more about how to install a custom ROM.

Also, before proceeding with the update, you have to make sure your device is ready for it. You will need:

– A rooted Galaxy S2 (For more information about how to root Galaxy S2 visit our tutorial)

– Because the updating process is not 100% safe, you should perform a full data backup in order to protect your personal data in case anything goes wrong

– You have to turn on USB Debugging by accessing Settings, Applications, Development, USB debugging.

– You must not have any antivirus software installed

– You need at least 1GB free space on the SD card

Meanwhile, here’s what the new 4.1.2 Root Box custom firmware offers: Jelly Bean base, HSPA+ Support, A2DP Support, OTA Update, AOKP, ExTweaks, T9 dialer.

How to update Galaxy S2 to Android 4.1.2?

Step1: Download the Root Box 4.1.2 Custom ROM for Galaxy S2 i9100 from here.

Step2: Download the Google Apps package from here.

Step3: Connect the SGS2 to the USB port and copy the files you downloaded on the root folder of the SD card.

Step4: Unplug the SGS2 from the USB port and turn it off. Enter Recovery Mode ( Hold Volume Up, Middle button and Power)

Step5: While in Recovery Mode press <Wipe data/factory reset> and < Wipe Cache partition>.

Step6: Press <install zip from sdcard> and select <choose zip from sdcard>. Look for the Root Box 4.1.2 Custom ROM and the Google Apps package and select them.

Step7: The update will take a few minutes to install. Press<Go back> and <Reboot System now>. This should restart the SGS2 in normal mode. This reboot usually takes longer.

Important: If the device gets stuck at any point, just restart the phone by pulling the battery and start all over again.

Your Samsung Galaxy S2 now has Android 4.1.2 Root Box Custom Rom installed and ready to roll.
